I'm driving from New York all the way to the keys in September, my first time in Florida, people told me there are not good beaches in the keys, it is true? what is the best spot to go for a swim? I will be staying going to Key West for 5 days.

Re: Beaches in the Keys?

It is true, the beaches in the keys are not as good as the rest of Florida, that is because the Coral Reef protecting the shores and not letting the sand pile up on the coast, but you still have some really good beaches in Bahia Honda State park (right after the sevent mile bridge on your left ) and in Key West you have Smathers beach and the best one is located in Zachary Taylor park, great swimming beach with warm clear waters.

Re: Beaches in the Keys?

I go almost every month to the keys and I can tell you that even if there are not too many "good" beaches, the Keys had a different atmosphere than the rest of Florida, in Islamorada you will found Islamorada Founder's Park with a nice secluded beach, further south in Mile Marker 70 you have the pet friendly Anne's Beach, or go to Sombrero beach in Marathon, a very nice beach with pavilions.  wink
